Crochet Drawstring Sunglasses Case
A tall, slim pouch for your sunglasses: a narrow oval base, rounds of double crochet until it's a round taller than your frames, a firm slip stitch rim and two drawstrings.

Sunglasses need a pouch that's long and narrow, and this one is sized to your own frames: you just keep going until the sleeve is one round taller than your glasses. The base is a narrow oval with rounded ends, the body is plain double crochet, and the top gets a round of slip stitches so the rim doesn't stretch out over time.
At about a quarter of an hour, it's the shortest video in Elise's lilthings beginner series.

Written from the video tutorial.
Materials
- 5-ply milk cotton in a main colour, plus white for the drawstrings
- 3.0 mm hook
- A stitch marker, scissors and a darning needle
Base (round 1)
Chain 13. Then:
- Work 11 dc along one side of the chain.
- Work 6 dc into the last chain to round the end.
- Turn to the other side of the chain and work 10 dc back.
- Work 6 dc into the final stitch to round the second end.
Join with a slip stitch. (33)
The 6 dc at each end make the ends smoothly rounded, so the case is a slim oval that fits glasses snugly.
Body (rounds 2 to 18)
Chain 2, work the first dc into the same stitch as the chain, and put a marker in it. Then 1 dc in each stitch around (33). Join.
Slip your sunglasses in every few rounds. Stop when the sleeve is one round taller than the frames; Elise's took 18 rounds.
Rim (round 19)
Don't chain. Skip the first stitch and work 1 slip stitch into every stitch around. Fasten off.
A round of slip stitches doesn't stretch, so the top keeps its shape even after the glasses go in and out a hundred times.
Drawstrings
With white, make two chains of 57 each. Using the darning needle:
- Thread the first over 2 stitches and under 2, around the last round of double crochet.
- Thread the second the same way, in the opposite direction.
Knot the ends.
Tips
- Measure your frames folded. Then the case fits whichever glasses you carry most.
- Same 33 every round. If the sleeve gets wider at the top, you're adding a stitch at the join.
- Cushion the lenses. Use a soft cotton, and you can slip a scrap of felt in the bottom.
Frequently asked questions
Can I make a glasses case for bigger frames?
Chain more for a wider base, and keep the 6 dc at each end. Then work rounds until it's tall enough.
Why slip stitch the top instead of single crochet?
Slip stitches are the flattest, firmest stitch, so they hold the rim's shape. Single crochet would stretch more.
Can I add a strap?
Yes. Attach a long chain or a crochet cord at both sides of the rim, so you can wear the case across your body.
