Terms of Use
Last updated: 28 October 2026
These Terms of Use ("terms") are an agreement between you and DoubleCrochet io ("we", "us", "our"), which runs Double Crochet at https://doublecrochet.io (the "site"). By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
These terms work together with our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Community Guidelines, Copyright and Pattern Use policy, Affiliate Disclosure and Disclaimer, which form part of these terms.
1. Using the site
You may read and use the site for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. You agree not to:
- copy, republish, sell or redistribute our content except as allowed in our Copyright and Pattern Use policy or by law,
- scrape, crawl or harvest the site with automated tools, or use our content to train machine learning or AI models, without our written permission (ordinary search engine indexing is allowed),
- interfere with the site's security or operation, try to get into accounts or areas you are not allowed to use, or send viruses or malicious code,
- click on ads or affiliate links fraudulently, or ask others to do so,
- use the site in any way that breaks the law or the rights of others.
2. Reader accounts
You need an account to save items, see your comment history and submit articles. To create one you must be at least 16 years old and give accurate information. You are responsible for keeping your password secret and for everything done with your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.
You can delete your account at any time under Account settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the Community Guidelines, or that has been used to harm the site or other readers.
3. Comments and other content you post
You keep ownership of the comments, photos, bios and other content you post ("your content"). By posting it, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, display, reproduce, adapt (for example to fit our layout) and distribute your content on the site and in connection with it, for as long as it stays on the site and for a reasonable time afterwards in backups.
You promise that you have the right to post your content, that it is accurate where it states facts, and that it follows our Community Guidelines. Do not post other people's patterns, photos or text without permission.
We may review, edit for length or formatting, decline or remove any content at our discretion, but we are not obliged to monitor everything posted. Comments reflect the views of the people who write them, not ours.
4. Article submissions
Account holders can write articles and send them to our editors. Sending an article does not oblige us to publish it. Our editors may decline it, ask for changes, or edit it for accuracy, clarity, length, style, search engines and the law before publishing.
When you send us an article you:
- confirm that it is your own original work, that you have the right to every image in it, and that publishing it will not infringe anyone's rights,
- confirm that any facts, measurements and instructions are accurate to the best of your knowledge, and that you have made and tested any pattern you submit,
- tell us in the article if any part of it was created with the help of AI tools,
- give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to publish, edit, adapt, translate, promote and distribute the article and its images, on the site and in related promotion such as our social media, with credit to the name on your account.
You keep the copyright in your article. Because we publish original work, please send only articles that have not been published elsewhere; after we publish yours, you may share it elsewhere with a link back to Double Crochet. If you want a published article removed, contact us; we will consider any reasonable request but may keep it where removing it would harm the site, for example where other readers rely on it. Unless we have agreed otherwise in writing, submissions are unpaid.
5. Patterns, guides and calculators
Our patterns, guides and calculators are provided for general information and enjoyment. Results depend on your yarn, hook, tension and technique, so your finished item may differ from ours. Calculator results are estimates unless a page says otherwise. Check any measurement that matters before you buy materials or start a project. Our Disclaimer explains this in more detail, including safety notes for toys and baby items.
How you may use our patterns, including selling things you make from them, is explained in our Copyright and Pattern Use policy.
6. Affiliate links, ads and other websites
The site contains affiliate links and advertising, as explained in our Affiliate Disclosure. It also links to websites run by others, such as stores, designers and video sites. We do not control those websites and are not responsible for their content, products, prices, delivery or privacy practices. When you buy something from a store we link to, your contract is with that store, not with us.
7. Our intellectual property
The site and everything on it that we created, including text, patterns, charts, photographs, calculators, design and the Double Crochet name and logo, belong to us or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. Except for the rights given in these terms and our Copyright and Pattern Use policy, no rights are granted to you.
8. Copyright complaints
If you believe something on the site infringes your copyright, please follow the notice procedure in our Copyright and Pattern Use policy. We remove infringing material and close the accounts of repeat infringers where appropriate.
9. Changes to the site
We may change, suspend or stop any part of the site, including features of reader accounts, at any time. We will try to give account holders reasonable notice of significant changes that affect them.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
The site is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises or warranties, express or implied, about the site, including that it will be accurate, complete, uninterrupted, secure or free of errors, or that it will meet your needs. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be excluded.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, materials or goodwill, arising from your use of the site, even if we were told they were possible. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (if any) or USD 50.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you live in the EEA or the UK, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or our failing to use reasonable care and skill.
12. Indemnity
To the extent the law allows, you agree to compensate us for claims, losses and reasonable legal costs that arise because content you posted or submitted infringes someone else's rights, or because you broke these terms.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled by the competent courts of Germany, unless the law of the country where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts or under your local law. If you are a consumer in the EEA or the UK, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live.
Before starting any formal claim, please contact us so we can try to resolve the problem informally.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will change the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, tell account holders by a notice on the site. If you keep using the site after the changes take effect, you accept the new terms.
15. General
If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we do not give it up. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours to someone who takes over the site. These terms, together with the policies linked above, are the whole agreement between you and us about the site.
